August Empties

Winter has come and gone on the calendar but the weather is here to stay. As I type this in the comfort of my room and the heater is going, the rain continues to hammer down outside, and the wind lashes against the poor passerbys running for cover.

The start of Spring is usually a reminder for me to reevaluate where I am, decide what things to take with me into the future, and what things to leave behind. So behold, my August/Winter empties, bigger, better and improved with a definitive repurchase/would not repurchase (WR/WNR) rating.

What: Cleansing Oil
Rating: WNR

I didn't think it had been that long since Missha released their pH balanced skincare line, but looks like they've already repackaged! I'm not sure if the formula has changed too, but if it hasn't, then it remains the first cleansing oil that I wasn't satisfied with. This felt more like a cleansing gel - as I massaged it around my face, the liquid clung to my face and made it difficult to manoveur and breakdown my makeup. I ended up running out of this really quickly because of the number of pumps I needed during each cleanse to cover my face and neck.

What: Cleansing Foam
Rating: WNR

A very efficient foaming cleanser that removes even eye makeup. Unfortunately it burned my eyes so I relegated it to being a body cleanser instead. The pump sometimes became stuck and wouldn't dispense, and if I accidentally had it sitting sideways, it would leak and waste product. I've written a full review of this before which you can find on the K-Beauty amino.

What: Travel all-in-one cleansing kit
Rating: WNR

I received this for free after making a particularly large Christmas order haha. It has 3 steps, but step 1 and step 2 are basically the same thing. They both have two cleansing pads, but they're just different shapes, which is handy for separate eye/lip makeup and face makeup I guess. Step 3 are 'self-wetting' cotton buds which I liked in theory. The tube was made up of two parts and water was contained in the centre of the tube. By separating the two parts of the tube, the pressure would be released to soak the cotton bud. But the tubes became stuck when I tried to separate them and I ended up tearing some skin off my finger. Only one side of the cotton bud was soaked too, which seemed like a waste because the dry end was essentially useless.
What: Cleansing Water
Rating: WNR

Smells likes cucumbers and does the job. The only thing I don't like about it is if I dispense too much onto the cotton pad, then it starts to foam up. There's almost no friction between the pad and my face and it can sometimes skip over my skin.

If you're not 100% ready to jump on the hype train, pick up the 60mL travel version instead*
What: Multi-purpose product. Cleansing water/Toner
Rating: WNR (read my description below)

It pH balances, it's a fantastic cleansing water and it's a mild toner that preps your skin for the rest of your routine. Hands down my favourite multipurpose product, but a guilty favourite because it's made by the company Mr Son & Park had setup, but were forced to step down from. Although the duo have resurfaced with their new brand, Gesgep, I don't think they have come out with their new version of the Beauty Water which is a shame, since I'll be boycotting the product now that this is used up. I've also completed a full review of this here.

Leaders Mediu Nutri Grain Mask Pack
What: Wash-off Pack
Rating: WR

Lasts 3-4 uses. The instuctions say 5-10 minutes but I have it on for 2 because that's how long it takes to brush my teeth. Even then I saw an immediate brightening effect after using it and I enjoyed the mild exfoliation experience from rubbing off this mask.

What: Serum
Rating: WNR

I've written a full review about this. It's a quick sinking, hydrating serum but it broke me out.

Goodal Moisture Barrier Liquid
What: Multi-purpose product. Toner/Essence/Serum
Rating: WR

Lasted me 5-6 months despite me using it most nights. Super hydrating, refreshing to use and has a lovely floral smell that I never got sick of.

What: Gel Moisturiser
Rating: WR

I'm 100% I've written about this somewhere before, but that place escapes me haha. I loved this one, it was rich in silicones so it was perfect as a makeup primer too. The gel was hydrating and sank in very quickly, making my skin feel lovely and soft. The only con was not knowing how much was left, but the pump action bottle was still a nice hygenic touch.
What: Eye Cream
Rating: WNR

A good, basic eye cream. Its texture is closer to that of a light lotion but in the end I realised I needed a heavier duty cream because of my tendency to rely on a matte corrector to cover up my dark circles.

What: Brush Cleanser
Rating: WNR

A hugely effective brush cleanser that has a strong artificial scent. I poured this into a bowl and swished my brushes through them. This thoroughly stripped my brushes of all the pigment left on them but also imparted that disgusting fruity scent which made makeup application an unpleasant ritual.

What: Contour
Rating: WNR

Hardly hygenic due to the sponge applicator, I bought this only because Ssinnim gave it her 'Qualified by Ssin' sticker, so I had to try it out. The product was very easy to use and provides the subtlest, barely there contour, perfect for the nose.
I threw it out because the packaging was chipping off so much that I was getting it all over my fingers and it interfered with application of my later makeup steps. I thought it might have just been my bad luck but Lamuque released a video very recently where she had the same problem. Packaging aside, if they decide to repackage this, I would consider repurchasing this.

What: Contour Palette
Rating:WR

After trying this out I can see why people love this palette so much. Pigmentation wise, it isn't exceptionally strong, however it is definitely buildable so you can adjust your contour look, be it natural or structured. The 3 shades can be mixed and matched for different areas of your face - I'll often use the lightest colour to set my undereyes and my eyelids, then I'll the middle shade for my nose. I then mix all three shades to slim down my jaw and cheeks, and use anything that's leftover for my hairline.

What: Mascara
Rating:WNR

As someone who is absolute shite with mascara this was a fantastic 'entry' product to ease me into that realm. The skinny wand really helps with easy application and lengthened my lashes. From the very first time I used it it always had a 'rotten' smell about it and eventually it got too much for me so I tossed it. Did your mascara have the same scent or did I get a dud?

What: Multipurpose product. Cream blusher/lipstick
Rating: WNR

A deluxe sample size of the multipurpose product, that can be used as a lipstick or even as a blusher. I love the shade, it's a slightly dark MLBB shade. Unfortunately this mostly dried out soon after I was sent it, however I do own a full size product of this in a different shade. The formula is extremely sticky, pigmented and can be drying. You've got to be very light handed with this to avoid looking like a clown.

Whew, that's it for my latest empties post. I hope you got something out of reading it, and if you made it through the entire post, you're such a lovely being c:

Thanks for reading everyone!
