Benton Dear My Best Friend Bar Review

I confess, I am terrible with body cleansing. I'm the type to jump in the shower, douse myself with water and cleanse only my face. The rest of my body however, goes unloved by the saintly textures of a cleanser due to pure laziness, so this is a review opportunity I was excited for because a) it's Benton, they make great shiz and b) now I was forced to up my hygiene standards.

Claims
A natural soap for both body and face. It's made with a vegetable oil base and various botanical ingredients which enable moisturising cleansing. The BF bar helps blemished skin by removing dead skin cells and excessive sebum. It is suitable for dry skin because of its moisturising vegetable oil base and its other ingredients make it suitable for sensitive skin.

Packaging
I don't understand the themes of Benton packaging, it all sort of keeps changing up. The style of this reminds me of a treasure map with the yellowed edges. Anyway, the soap comes in plastic packaging and an additional paper box with the ingredients and other info.

On one end it even has a side for you to complete your last minute KK present.

I like the smart design of the foaming net. It's a little bag that you use to store the soap and hang to dry, making it super convenient for me because I hate the thought of sticking soap on a stand and letting it fester without drainage.

Ingredients
An array of different oils make up the bulk of this soap bar. The general gist is they are supposed to moisturise the skin gently. Papain is included for its exfoliative properties and kaolin, a clay ingredient, may contribute to the control of sebum.

Experience
I used this 4-5 times per week by keeping the soap inside the foaming net, lathering it up in the shower and then scrubbing it over my face and body.

The foaming net helps it lather up well.

From the first time I used it I could already guess this cleanser was too basic because it gave my face that 'squeaky' feeling. As luck would have it, I managed to get a hold of a pH strip to test the BF bar - I didn't have the comparison sheet, but the stark green would have clocked in at about pH 7-8. Interestingly enough it didn't irritate my eyes, but I did need to scrub harder to remove my eye makeup. Foundation however, came out quite easily with this.

Hot showers usually make my cheeks super red, but after using the soap bar even my forehead looked an angry crimson. As summer dragged on I switched to cold showers and still, I would emerge with inflamed skin.

I also regularly used the bar on my body. Here's the before and after photos that I took of some scars on my arms.

Personally I didn't expect to see much changes in the texture of my scars and although it's a little difficult to tell between the different types of lighting, there really wasn't much change in their appearance. Fortunately my body didn't experience the same sensitising effect the soap had on my face. The soap was also able to remove non-waterproof body sunscreen (I did not test this with a waterproof type).

After about a month of use, I'm almost completely done with using the bar and I haven't seen amazing results for my face or my body. I think I'll stick to using tube cleansers for now, at least until Benton releases their next cleanser. Fingers crossed my skin will like their next product more.

Until next time,
